Verdú, Maldà, and Guimerà: Medieval Villages Route
The Medieval tradition so strongly present in the comarca is particularly evident in the smaller villages, such as Verdú, Maldà, or Guimerà. Each of these offers a good opportunity to combine culture and traditions, letting the visitor engage in great sight-seeing and pleasant walks.
Verdú: Village of ceramic handicraft par excellence, it was declared zone of handicraft interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya. The Parochial Church of Santa Maria (13th century), the Hermit of San Miquel (15th century), and the Romanic-style Castle are other cultural incentives. Moreover, the "Museum of Toys and Automats" is a delight for the youngest (and the not so young).
Maldà: Every bit of Maldà brims with history. In the olden days-concretely the 12th century-the village was completely walled; nowadays one wonders at the stones that remain of the castle, the chapel of Sant Pere, and the Temple of Santa Maria. Medieval atmosphere and a great panoramic view of the area.
Guimerà: This Medieval village is physiognomically unique: a maze of streets stretches all the way up to the chapel and the castle, creating an original pattern of architectural shapes that will catch the visitor off-guard. The village was declared Historic Art Complex in 1975.
