TALLAHASSEE, FL (WDAM) – Jones College saw Pensacola State College pull away from a halftime tie to take a 65-52 victory on the final day of the Tallahassee Democrat Holiday Classic.
The two-day tourney was anything but jolly for the Bobcats (7-3), who dropped consecutive games for the first time this season. JC lost 78-66 Friday to fourth-ranked Tallahassee Community College at the Bob Hillbrock Eagledome.
Jones fell behind by eight points early but rallied to take a 26-24 lead on a 3-pointer by freshman guard Kenneth Rogers (Starkville) with 59 seconds left in the first half.
Jones would take its final lead of the game at 29-28 with 17:07 to play on a free throw by freshman guard Casey Smith Jr. (Columbus).
But the Pirates (12-5) would then take control with a 14-0 run and take a 42-29 lead with 12:48 remaining. The closest the Bobcats would get would be 45-37 with 8:48 to play on a 3-pointer by freshman guard Brandon Jones (West Jones).
Pensacola’s longest lead would be 57-40 with 3:29 left.
Sophomore guard Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) and Smith led the Bobcats with 14 points each. Freshman guard Shardarrion Allen (Raymond) had seven points and 12 rebounds.
TALLAHASSEE, FL (WDAM) – A 29-9 run over the end of the first half and the start of the second half put Jones College in a hole it never could scale.
The Bobcats led by as many as seven points in the first half but the Eagles (16-0) outscored Jones 22-9 over the final 7 minutes of the first half and then scored the first seven points of the second half to lead 40-27.
Rogers had 17 points, including three 3-pointers. Sophomore forward Tirus Smith (Petal), a transfer from the University of Texas-El Paso, had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Bobcats outrebounded the Eagles, 54-39, but shot just 29 percent from the floor and missed 12 of 31 free-throw attempts.
