TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — The wait is over! Target is officially opening its Florida State University small-format store in the Varsity Plaza Center off of West Tennessee Street on July 22.

Nationwide, Target is opening the new small-format stores in urban areas, dense suburban neighborhoods and near college campuses.

Although a smaller store, it will still include the normal sections of a full-sized store, such as clothing, produce, and home decor. However, company officials say the store will be tailored specifically for students and residents of the FSU area. We’re told the new store will also include a Starbucks, Target Mobile and Order Pickup.

The new store is expected to employ approximately 70 team members.

To celebrate the store’s opening, a company spokesperson says Target will give $6,000 total in grants to three local Tallahassee nonprofits this July.

The grand opening of the Target will be Sunday, July 22, and doors open at 8 a.m. The first 1,000 guests to arrive will be provided complimentary reusable bags.

The store is located at 1861 W. Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, FL 32304.
